If you’re not getting the results you want in your job search. Wait, back up, and start over immediately. If the research in the beginning of your job search is off the entire job search and interviewing process will be off. Everything!

If you don’t do any research and just “wing it” what will happen is you will be interviewing for the wrong positions within the wrong companies. It won’t be a match when you’re interviewing and it will be very frustrating for you.

If this sounds like you then I want you to wait, back-up and start over with your job search. I want you to have a clear understanding of what you want to do with your life and career, before you send one resume (CV) to any company. Do your research on everything!

I want you to research the type of company, position, location, philosophies, potential, and lastly the type of money you will need. Do you know how many people skip this step? Do you know how many people jump into something and then have regrets a short time later? Don’t be the person that jumps into the first job offer and then complains about the company, position, location, philosophies of the company and the potential for your career and then finally, the money isn’t enough for you. Sound familiar?

Too many people drift through life instead of taking control of their life. You have total control over of the types of companies you approach for employment. Don’t wing it! Take the time to figure out what you want to do in your life and career. Is it the quality of life you’re looking for in a new position? Is it location? Are you looking for a publicly traded company or private company? Why? What about the company’s reputation in the industry? What about upward mobility? And, of course, what type of compensation do you need?

I always mention money last because I don’t want it to cloud your thinking. I have seen plenty of candidates make poor career decisions because they were overly focused on the money. Of course money plays a part in your decision-making, but I want you to be more focused on the other things first. Believe me, if you don’t like the company, position, location, and everything else on your list, the money won’t matter. So, if you’re not getting the results you want in your job search I want you to wait, back-up and start over. I hope this helps.

Good luck to you!
